THE BUNKER SECRET PROJECT
On March 22, 1994, the BUNKER secret society was formed by a group of artists and art theorists in Copenhagen. The background for this event was twofold: on one hand, the members shared a common interest in the most profound principles and implications of the concepts of the statue and the statuary, as well as the strategic and aesthetic importance of the hidden; on the other hand, contacts had been made with the community of Hirtshals, Vendsyssel, where exceptional conditions of artistic investigation are provided by the outpost identity of the site and the unique landscape, shaped by strong dynamics of nature as well as history. The strategic aim of the BUNKER secret society, given this line of departure, was defined as the installation of a secret in a World War II German bunker near Hirtshals, a secret to be unveiled exactly 50 years after the installment (thus mirroring in time the 50 years elapsed since the end of WW II). The members of the BUNKER secret society swore a solemn oath never to betray any detail concerning the secret part of the installation, and a secret charter was signed. Today, it appears that the first step of this project has been successfully achieved: the BUNKER chamber, containing the secret, has actually been installed at the proper site. For the second step, however, for the unveiling of the secret, the world will have to wait for another 50 years.
