DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLING TO THE BUNKER SECRET SITE
Domestic travelling
Domestic air travelling
Nearest main airport is Aalborg, 64 km from Hirtshals, although touching down
at Tågholt, 20 km (bee line) eastsoutheast of Hirtshals, might be possible,
depending on weather and other conditions (cf.fig. 40).
Domestic railway travelling
In November 1995, the nearest Danish State Railways (DSB) station is Hjørring, 17 km from Hirtshals. Scheduled travelling times in 1995 from important railway stations in Denmark to Hjørring are:
| Copenhagen |
(via Nyborg) |
6 h 38 m |
|
(via Kalundborg) |
5 h 22 m |
| Odense |
|
3 h 55 m |
| Padborg |
(German border) |
4 h 55 m |
| Aalborg |
|
0 h 39 m |
| Århus |
|
2 h 10 m |
From Hjørring, a local train (a so called gris, i.e. literally a "pig", cf. the legend of Karl Pølse) leaves for Hirtshals at least every hour during daytime (scheduled travelling time in 1995: 0 h 22 m).
Arrived at the railway station, one has to follow Havnegade going west, then Kystvejen turning southwards to reach the BUNKER site about 1.5 km from the station. Any local taxi driver will presumably be aware of the location of the BUNKER secret site; if requested, though, alternative approximate indications are the Lighthouse or the Fyrklit Hotel (cf. Domestic car travelling). |

Domestic car travelling
The car traveller is likely to approach the BUNKER secret site from the south, i.e.via Hjørring. The first asphalt road from Hjørring to Hirtshals was constructed no sooner than 1933, due to some local reluctance towards other transport vehicles than horse drawn carriages. Today, the main road E55 takes the driver approaching from the south pretty close to the BUNKER secret site: all one has to do, is to turn left where Kystvejen branches off from the main road (heading for the Lighthouse or the Fyrklit Hotel), which is just before entering the urban zone of Hirtshals (1 km past the Sdr. Ringvej branch off to the right). The driving distance from Hjørring to the BUNKER secret site is about 16 km.
Other ways of domestic travelling
In calm weather, the BUNKER site may be approached from the sea, the nearest harbour (apart, of course, from the harbour of Hirtshals) being the one at Skagen, some 35 nautical miles from the shore of the BUNKER secret site.
Another obvious way, equally dependent on weather and visibility, of reaching the BUNKER site, is parachuting.
International travelling
International air travelling
International airports in Denmark (1995) are Billund (235 km from Hirtshals), Tirstrup (179 km from Hirtshals), and Kastrup, near Copenhagen.
International train travelling
Hirtshals is connected directly to the European continent by railway line from Hamburg, via Padborg, Fredericia, Langå, Hjørring. (Cf. Domestic railway travelling).
International car travelling
In 1995, domestic and international highway bridges are planned to connect the two shores of the Great Belt (Nyborg-Korsør), as well as the island of Sjælland (Zealand) with both Sweden (Malmö-Copenhagen) and Germany (Puttgarden-Rødby). Supposing that these constructions be actually completed, they are not likely to hold any mentionable secrets within the scope of immediate future. The main highway approaching from the European continent is E 45 through the eastern part of Jutland. However, to avoid traffic jams at the German-Danish border (Kruså), the international user of the BUNKER secret might want to approach the site via Husum, Niebüll, Tønder close to the Atlantic coast in the west. In this case, main road A11 will take him from Tønder to Aabybro, via Ribe, Varde, Skjern, Holstebro, Struer and Thisted, whereupon main road E55 (turning north at Aabybro) will take him to Hirtshals via Hjørring (for local instructions cf. Domestic car travelling).
Other ways of international travelling
Main ferry lines connect Hirtshals directly to Oslo and Kristianssand (Norway), indirectly to Torshavn (Faroe Islands) via Hanstholm, Göteborg (Sweden) via Frederikshavn, as well as Newcastle and Harwich (Great Britain) via Esbjerg. For further possibilities (cf. Other ways of domestic travelling).
